Written by Sallie M., a Republican voter and supporter of Planned Parenthood
I am a proud Texan. A proud woman. A proud member of Republican Majority for Choice. And a proud supporter of Planned Parenthood.
We all know that a woman’s health care choices are incredibly personal. When we visit a doctor or are faced with tough decisions that directly impact our families and our health, it is not political. The government should stay out of our private health care decisions.
I know that health care decisions are best left to a woman, her family, her doctor, and her God – not politicians.
Texas women like our independence, including our independent thinking, and we don’t appreciate politicians or political groups forcing their beliefs on us.
I’m writing you today because it’s time voices like ours are heard; and because a new group that claims to represent women like me is spreading inaccurate information about the state of women’s health in Texas. Factual information is critical to make good decisions.
Texas women are facing a health care disaster at the hands of a small group of politicians who are trying to impose their beliefs on all Texans. I am a proud Republican woman, and those politicians and groups don’t represent me.
I support Planned Parenthood — an organization that in Texas was started by Republicans — because I know that my health care is personal and private. It is time Texas women joined together — whether red, blue, purple or independent — and remind our elected officials that women’s health should NOT be used for political purposes.
